Summary of the Book:

Ms. Patel’s startling memoir of survival, and escape from Idi Amin’s Uganda, is an amazing journey through cultures, beliefs, and life-and-death passions. Her girlhood growing up in an Indian Hindu family living in the East African nation of Uganda in the 1960s and 1970s. Like all those of Asian lineage, they were expelled from the country when the brutal dictator, Idi Amin, seized power. Ms. Patel describes their life before Amin, as seen through the eyes of a young girl. When the violence began, she was just beginning her passage into womanhood.
Amin started encouraging violence toward Uganda’s Asian community as soon as he took over. This escalated, until the brutal dictator expelled all Asians, giving them 90 days to leave, or they would face death. Meanwhile his followers engaged in random murders, and more and more frequent massacres. Ms. Patel and her family witnessed much of this. At one point she even stood up to Amin’s murderous soldiers, yet she lived to tell her tale.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I was asked to read this book by the author. I knew this is a true story and it is dark. It puts a face to the victims and is a very realistic tale of her escape from the dark world and country. This is about the pain and what they had to live through. I know that they make it to India and get free of the cruel work that they have known all of their lives. I don’t want to tell too much about this book. I want to leave something for the reader to discover about her journey and what her struggle was like.

My Rating of the Book: 4 Stars

Summary of the Book:

They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—if that’s the case, I better be badass by the time this is over.

After two years at a dead-end job, Rebecca Peterson finally walks away from everything she knows to follow her dreams in Ireland. Instead of dreams, the dreary streets of Belfast rekindle her terrifying nightmares, and this time they aren’t confined to her imagination. Twisted and vicious, Faeries are being unleashed on Earth to prey upon humans, who are unaware of the vile creatures walking among them. Becca must stay alive long enough to learn why she can see what others can’t, and even more importantly, discover how to keep the Fae from destroying life on Earth.

Delving into the underbelly of the city, Becca discovers that she is not entirely alone in her abilities; however, centuries of secrecy makes gathering information a challenge. When Becca crosses paths with two mysterious strangers, her life is only complicated further. The gorgeous but brooding Lochlan demands complete honesty but refuses to provide any answers of his own. On the other hand, Ronan is enigmatic and charming, and with his sights set on making Becca his, he offers more help than most. But Becca quickly learns that trusting others is difficult when you have secrets of your own. Sometimes, the enemy is within….

Warning: This is not a young adult book, it is also not erotica but does contain scenes with mature content so if you don’t mind some steamy bad boy goodness, then buckle up and prepare for the ride.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I want to thank the author for actually sending me a physical copy of this book. I love Becca she is just bold and out there. I would have to say my favorite character in the book is Ronan. There is just something about him that just speaks to me. After reading this I will never look at the fae the same way. There were times this book just gave me that chills. I do love how Ronan and Becca meet. It kind of made me laugh. She seemed a little confused by what was happening. I like that it broke the tense that seemed to building after all she had been through. I am very excited the next book in this series. My heart is still racing from reading this.

Summary of the Book:

How many half-truths could loyalty shoulder before it broke from the weight of deception on its back?

A sweeping LGBTQ and polyamorous retelling of “Swan Lake”!

Strange things can be said of the forest that spans the border of two kingdoms long at war. An evil sorcerer has made it his dominion, or an elegant enchantress has claimed it as her domain and grants wishes to those who chance upon her, or maybe the forest is guarded by an ancient and wrathful spirit.

Katya calls the forest home, living a life of magic and charms with her partner Ivan. But a threat looms over their forest, some darkness and danger that Ivan swears to protect her from. Katya finds herself caught up in a web of grudges and deception spanning generations, but most dangerous of all is the beautiful princess who stumbled into their woods. A princess who sets Katya’s heart fluttering with both desire and fear.

As forces rally to rescue the princess or go to war, Katya must take measure of her own powers and decide what she is willing to sacrifice. Will she retreat to the safety of what’s familiar or give up everything she knows to spread her wings and fly?

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I actually got a physical copy of this book from the author. Thank you for that Dax. This was an amazing retelling of Swan Lake. I grew up with the classic fairytale. I love how this did not make any of the character sexual preference awkward or abnormal. It was the norm for them. The describe and world building had me drawn in and going on the adventure. There are a lot of different kind of relationships going on in this book. I have to say just how much the cover art and some inside the book just added to the experience that I had. It is definitely a book that I will read again.

His fate will unfold in Bollywood Invasion.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I got a copy of this book from the author. I was so happy when it came in the mail. It is a retelling of a tale some of us already know. It follows the adventure of a teen who is late for school that he is hit by a bus and wakes not only in another body but another time. He is a prince in India in 1958. He does not understand it after first and he meets a girl and that changes everything for him. Her father does not approve him and sends her away. He has to do something and he and his friends for a band. It does not go so well at first but then he starts to remember things from his other life and they start to get notice with the song Yesterday. He wants fame and fortune for his friends and that will give him a chance to find the girl. How that all works out you are going to have to read for yourself. I did like who the author put little explanations at the book of the page with a number so you would what things meant. It made the story flow and more enjoyable. A story that is should to become a classic in its own right.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I got this book from the author. I was not sure how this would turn out, but Jack has a lot of issues and drinking and drugs are at the center. That is not all there is Elle does her best to support him but she wants to change him and he is not ready for that. Then he meets up with Sarah. She does change him but it is not as easy as just saying that. They had their problems as well, but how does it turn out? I will not tell but I did enjoy reading it. I have a cat too lol. Sorry could not help it.

End of the Week: 6/29/2018

Wow it has been a whirlwind of a week. I have been reading and reviewing like a woman possesses. It seems as quick as I am getting some titles off my list the more I seem to get. If any of you have followed me before you know that I was no so organized the first time I trying to blog. I was not strictly a book blogger back then. I was not this in demand before either. I am loving all the books that coming my way so far. I am working on some prep work for some up coming reviews. I have to stay head of the rush of new titles coming out. I am still surprised at some of the books I am getting. I am a huge Laurell K. Hamilton fan and I got an eARC of the next book in the series. I was floored when I was told they were only going to give out 15 copies. I did not think I have a chance but I put in a request anyway and it turned out all right.

I know that I have been posting a lot of reviews and not a lot of other content. I am working on other things I want to include in this blog. Just with so many books coming my way I think I am getting lost in my own TBR pile. I know that sometimes they get a bad rep for being neverending. We are adding books to them all the time. There is a lot that I want to be with my blog in the future. I would love to do some Author Interviews, Giveaways, and any thing else the Bookish Universe wants to bring my way. I think I am going to need to get away from the Book Reviewer’s Desk for a while or for a day maybe and get my creative juice flowing. Hey readers if you have suggestions for things you would like me to do or things you have done. I am open to ideas. We all need a little help sometimes.

I just looked over on my desk and see the list of book I still have to prep. I just remembered I got a paper back from an author yesterday in the mail. It only took a couple of days to get to me, but it did not arrive in great shape. It is still readable. Just a little bent and squished. It is a book called The Last Feast by Zeb Haradon. There will be a review coming for that in the coming day.

I think that is all that is new right now. It is not often I get physical books from authors, but this is the first for this blog. I hope it is the first of many to come. Have a great week. Here is to the next week.
