Summary of the Book:

Charlatan. Brute. Apostate. Desperate. Outcast. Finch Crushluck is no Death Priest. But he’s posing as one to make a fortune in pursuit of an amulet that contains the blood of First, a powerful alien being of pure entropy. Finch is not alone in his quest. Seduced by First’s promise of power, a holy man betrays his faith and seeks the amulet to free the creature. To save her kidnapped daughter, a merchant captain delivers the ransom of a gilded dirigible to First. To avenge the murder of his family, a giant risks the fate of the world by using the amulet as bait to lure a hated foe and his monstrous war machine into combat. First waits for them in the heart of a nightmare landscape of destruction and madness. But the greatest dangers Finch and his companions face on their journey are deceit and disdain. The clash of their desires can destroy First or unleash him from his ancient prison. They can save the world. Or hasten its doom.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.  This book has left me with a lot to think about. Of course I can’t tell you if they save or bring on destruction of the world. It is an adventure that a group of misfits all end up going on for their very own reasons. Not all of them are in it for the right ones. First kind of scares me with all that ancient talk and all the think he could do. I had a feeling that someone was going to turn on them and all hell would back lose. I feel a little strange about this. It is like something from an ancient and dark prophecy. It needs more attention brought to it.

My Rating of the Book: 4 1/2 Stars

Summary of the Book:

Esha is a legend, but no one knows. It’s only in the shadows that she moonlights as the Viper, the rebels’ highly skilled assassin. She’s devoted her life to avenging what she lost in the royal coup, and now she’s been tasked with her most important mission to date: taking down the ruthless General Hotha.

Kunal has been a soldier since childhood, training morning and night to uphold the power of King Vardaan. His uncle, the general, has ensured that Kunal never strays from the path—even as a part of Kunal longs to join the outside world, which has been growing only more volatile.

Then Esha’s and Kunal’s paths cross—and an unimaginable chain of events unfolds. Both the Viper and the soldier think they’re calling the shots, but they’re not the only players moving the pieces. As the bonds that hold their land in order break down and the sins of the past meet the promise of a new future, both rebel and soldier must make unforgivable choices.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Indian history and Hindu mythology, the first book in Swati Teerdhala’s debut fantasy trilogy captivates with electric romance, stunning action, and the fierce bonds that hold people together—and that drive them apart.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I loved this. The characters of Esha and Kunal where just so thought out and know what they stand for. I always love to read debut books by authors in my chosen genres. There lands are so unbalanced and in tragedy that each think they are calling the shots and know what is to come. The interactions and the writing style just pulled me in and would not let me go. I know this book is not going to be out for a while but I am so ready for the next book in the trilogy. The description of the world and the mythology and legends that gave inspiration to this story is amazing. It hold on to you long after the final page has been turned.

Summary of the Book:

Sergeant Vila Kiprik has survived many brutal missions during his thirty-year army career, but this last posting to Demon’s Deep is his deadliest yet. Top Brass need the mine working again for its rare quartz deposits, but the miners have gone AWOL, replaced by crazed savages.

Kiprik and his squad have been charged with taking back control, but this is no ordinary drive. Sinister forces more deadly than madmen hunt them in the shadows and that retirement up in the Duchy mountains soon begins to look like a pipe dream.

As reality itself breaks down, and magical charms fail against wild, untameable powers, Kiprik is thrown into a fight for survival, sanity and redemption. But do thirty years killing in the name of the flag put him beyond saving?

One thing is certain, a reckoning approaches, and it’s probably around the next bend.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. It was a little short but that is okay. It did great in keeping me excited for the adventure ahead. Thinking it was a simple assignment but it turned out to be a fight to stay alive, to remain sane, and to take back the mine at all costs. There are things that are lurking in the shadows and coming for them when they have their backs turned. Kiprik is not longing for retirement that might never come. So does he get out alive or do the sinister force get a hold of him. Read the book and make your own call.

Summary of the Book:

Welcome to Zoone: crossroads of the multiverse. Fans of Diana Wynne Jones and Lisa McMann are sure to be enchanted by this whimsical escapade through infinite portals to new—and sometimes perilous—lands.
When a blue winged tiger—a skyger—appears on Ozzie’s sofa, he can tell he’s in for an adventure. He’s thrilled to follow the big cat, Tug, through a secret door in the basement and into Zoone, the bustling Grand Central Terminal of the universe, where hundreds of doors act as gateways to fantastic and wonderful worlds.

But some doors also hide dangers—and when the portal back to Earth explodes behind him, Ozzie gets more than the adventure he bargained for. In a station full of wizards, creepy-crawlies, and the occasional cursed princess, Ozzie has to find a way to repair his door…and maybe save the multiverse in the process.

Book one of this new tween fantasy series beckons readers through a magical doorway and into a world brimming with colorful characters, magical mayhem, and endless adventure.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. First off I have to say just how cute and sweet and adventurous this book is. I did not read a lot of books as a child about portals. But I wish this book had been around when I was that age. I have to say that Tug the skyger is my favorite character. What is not to like. He is a winged blue tiger. The station with all of the door was just amazing and detail made it feel like I was right there. I know this book does not come out for a long while yet, but I am so ready for the next one in the series. There are a lot of crazy and amazing characters, locations, and twists that just make you want to keep turning the pages. So grab a copy of this wondrous book once it comes out.

Summary of the Book:

How many half-truths could loyalty shoulder before it broke from the weight of deception on its back?

A sweeping LGBTQ and polyamorous retelling of “Swan Lake”!

Strange things can be said of the forest that spans the border of two kingdoms long at war. An evil sorcerer has made it his dominion, or an elegant enchantress has claimed it as her domain and grants wishes to those who chance upon her, or maybe the forest is guarded by an ancient and wrathful spirit.

Katya calls the forest home, living a life of magic and charms with her partner Ivan. But a threat looms over their forest, some darkness and danger that Ivan swears to protect her from. Katya finds herself caught up in a web of grudges and deception spanning generations, but most dangerous of all is the beautiful princess who stumbled into their woods. A princess who sets Katya’s heart fluttering with both desire and fear.

As forces rally to rescue the princess or go to war, Katya must take measure of her own powers and decide what she is willing to sacrifice. Will she retreat to the safety of what’s familiar or give up everything she knows to spread her wings and fly?

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I actually got a physical copy of this book from the author. Thank you for that Dax. This was an amazing retelling of Swan Lake. I grew up with the classic fairytale. I love how this did not make any of the character sexual preference awkward or abnormal. It was the norm for them. The describe and world building had me drawn in and going on the adventure. There are a lot of different kind of relationships going on in this book. I have to say just how much the cover art and some inside the book just added to the experience that I had. It is definitely a book that I will read again.

Summary of the Book:

An ancient power long kept dormant stirs in the shadows once more as one boy embarks on a quest to earn his freedom and the freedom of his land!

Magic has turned to myth, the Vaelhyreans of old are naught but legend, and the power of the ancients has long been forgotten. However, with Ealdred, a mere half-breed slave boy, myth becomes real, the forgotten remembered, and the power of legend is reborn.

Sold into slavery at birth, Ealdred has grown accustomed to his bleak existence, only dreaming of a life he can call his own. One day Ealdred is suddenly thrown into a world of mystery, brimming with deceit, where the remaining Vaelhyreans are in a desperate fight for their very survival. When Ealdred is kidnapped by the power-mongering dark lord Zeldek, he must make a choice: commit his newfound magic to Zeldek’s service or die. But when he meets Bellator, Zeldek’s clever yet treacherous servant, an alternative is presented to him: escape from Zeldek’s stronghold and embark on a quest to find a cursed arrow and free the Vaelhyreans from the spell that keeps their powers at bay.

Yet how can he survive in a world where magic is illegal, half-breeds are hated, and the four countries are on the brink of destroying one another?

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. The pacing of this tale kept me turning the pages from page one until I closed the back cover a couple of hours later. I loved the world building and how the characters pulled you along on their journey. I sometimes have an issue with some fantasy. But I found all the answers I needed and the tale was put together very well. The POVs of the characters are sharp and clear. This makes it very easy to follow the story and who’s voice is telling this part of the story. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what come in the next one.

Summary of the Book:

Abomination. Curse. Murderer. All names hurled at eighteen-year-old Seraphina Dovetail. As the seventh-born daughter to a witch, she’s the cause of her mother losing her powers and, in turn, her life.

Abandoned as a child, Sera dreams of becoming an inspector and finding her family. To do that, she must be referred into the Advanced Studies Program at the Aetherium’s Witchling Academy. Her birth order, quick temper, and tendency to set things on fire, however, have left her an outcast with failing marks…and just what Professor Nikolai Barrington is looking for.

The tall, brooding, yet exceedingly handsome young professor makes her a proposition: become his assistant and he’ll give her the referral she needs. Sera is quickly thrust into a world where witches are being kidnapped, bodies are raised from the dead, and someone is burning seventhborns alive. As Sera and Barrington grow ever closer, she’ll discover that some secrets are best left buried…and fire isn’t the only thing that makes a witch burn.

My Personal Review: I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I like the story behind the seventh born child. Even though it not acceptable to hunt and kill them anymore someone is still out there holding the order a child born against them. It was not their choice to be born then. Sera has been through hell even at her young age. She ends up going to Witchling Academy and that is where she gets to know Professor Barrington. She comes against someone who wants witches dead. It is was not what I expected and that is a good thing. Ready for the next one.
